MP3s Galore! Why? Cause I'm Bored Out of My Mind!!!
I have literally left my house in SC three times since I arrived on Tuesday. Once to pick up food. The two other times were to visit the same friend down the street. The rest of the time has been comprised of updating this site (see photo page, my new poster, design changes, etc.). I've also been trying to read and do some miscellaneous productive stuff.
The highlight of my day is when I get the awesome opportunity to catch "Seinfeld" reruns on TBS (and the local Fox/WB affiliate when I'm really lucky).
But, I've also been on a music listening marathon. I've been checking out all the albums I missed out on in '05 and some new buzzed about '06 releases. So -- here are some mp3s for you! This is actually a f'n sick mixtape if you put it all together.
First off, Tapes 'n Tapes. These guys are f'n awesome. I'd read bits about them in Gorilla vs. Bear and finally listened to the album this week and it delivers. I think these guys will hit hard in '06. Here's two tracks from their website:
Now onto Broadcast. Think Nico meets Postal Service meets Clinic's "Distortions" meets something a little dirtier. This duo is on Warp and are f'n great. This first song may be the most beautiful song produced in '05. The other song is fantastic also. MP3s found via My Old Kentucky Blog.
Next up, Ariel Pink. You all know Ariel's story - crazy LA recluse that made awesome treasure trove of psych-pop bedroom recordings that was recently discovered by Animal Collective. His latest re-release is the forthcoming House Arrest, which I recently acquired. Not sure if its up to par yet with Worn Copy, but here are two great tracks. (Also, here's an interesting article about Ariel in LA Weekly.)
Finally, the National. One of the big "albums I've been meaning to listen to" from '05. I finally got around to it. This one track is so, so good. Found via BrookylnVegan's post about Richard from Burnside's '05 mixtape. You can find the Richard's whole mixtape here. And while you're at it, vote for BV for URBs Music Blog awards. Vote HERE!
Go drop a vote for "Crash Test" in TimeOut's 2005 Best of 2005 Reader's Poll. The show is nominated for Best New Variety Show in their Comedy category.
