Shittiest Mixtape Contest - Video Will Debut Monday at the 'Test
When I hosted Crash Test last month with my roommates Zach and Merlin, one of our bits was about the notion of the 'shittiest mix ever.' Zach and I each chose 5 songs for a shit mix, with Merlin judging which was worse. The loser would have to burn all 10 songs on to a CD and blast them from a boombox while walking around Washington Square Park.
Well, I lost, and a few weekends ago, I put a boombox on my shoulder and hit the town. 'Bugs director Jason Woliner filmed the whole fiasco and is editing it together so we can show what went down at the 'Test this Monday.
Here were our selections for those that don't remember:
Me: 1. LFO - Summer Girls ("I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch...) 2. Crazy Town - Butterfly 3. Kidz Bop Kids - All Star 4. Sixpence None the Richer - Kiss Me (Think "She's All That" or any other teen comedy featuring Freddie Prinze, Jr.) 5. Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Zach: 1. Gloria Estefan - Conga 2. Paula Cole - I Don't Wanna Wait... 3. Saliva - Click, Click, Boom! 4. The Wiggles - The Monkey Dance (holy shit, Zach brought the house down with this one) 5. Theme Song from "Blossom"

Another Quick Music Post...

Old news, but I think many people have forgot - that album is f'n awesome. At this very moment, if I had to choose 2 albums for my island 10 from the records that came out over the past few years - no question - they'd be Echoes and Turn on the Bright Lights. (I'd try to finagle Bloc Party in too)
Although I've seen the 'Pol (whoa that sounds weird) several times live, I've never gotten to see the Rapture live. I was always out of town or seeing some other show (once it was Radiohead at Beacon Theatre, which was amazing.)
Anyway, tangents aside, after reading BrooklynVegan last night, I found out the Rapture are playing two shows in October at Canal Room and Bowery. Don't sleep.

Quick Music Post
I haven't said much about music lately...

This new Franz Ferdinand album is really good and I've been meaning to mention it for a while. I never got too into the first record (although I loved "Take Me Out," "Darts of Pleasure," and "Matinee"). There are lot of great tracks here and frankly, I'm surprised there isn't more pre-release hype about this album. Most people seem to be lukewarm about it, but I'm quite the fan. I'm curious to see how the almighty Pitchfork weighs in. They did give "The Fallen" (lead track) a nice review of 4 stars, but for the album, I'd be very surprised if they dropped anything over an 8.3. (A very specific estimate I know.)

The 'Bugs are Back (Sort of)

So due to our hectic schedules, we were unable to film Episode 3 proper of the 'Bugs for Channel 102 this month. HOWEVER, we did turn in what I guess is the equivalent of Episode 2.5. It contains a trailer for the new film the 'Bugs are co-producing with the director of "The Fast and the Furious" and the Department of Homeland Security called "Death Brigade 6: The Curse of the Dragon's Claw." We came in 2nd place at Channel 102 (the awesome "Teen Homicide" snagged 1st.)
The 'Bugs (Huebel, myself, and director/editor genius Jason Woliner) apologize for not having a new episode ready, but we'll bring the ruckus back in October, we promise.
Anyway, enough chatter, here's episode 2.5 of "Shutterbugs." Enjoy.

C-Test Recap
Big ups to Demetri, Andres, Guile, and Isaac for doing the show last night. Paul and I had a blast as Dr. Doug and Dr. Dan. For those that missed it, we gave the audience some great "power tips" on how to solve their problems. Here were some of my favorites:
"If you have a choice between a muffin and a sandwich, go with the sandwich."
"Don't burn tires, when we're trying to give you a car."
"When you're eating blueberries, you're only a 3 steps away from fingerbanging a muffin."
"Eating grapefruit's a bitch."
We also signed copies of our bestselling self help books - "Shut the Fuck Up and Let Us Solve Your Problems"...

And of course, its Pulitzer Prize winning followup - "No Seriously, Shut the Fuck Up and Let Us Solve Your Problems."

Next week's show should be awesome - Greg Giraldo is coming by and my co-host is none other than fellow Shutterbug Rob Huebel! Reserve it up.

C-Test, Return of the 'Bugs - Tonight
Tonight is going to be a great night at UCB. First off, at 8, we have the return of Channel 102. The 'Bugs will be back and we have a special treat cooked up. I also can't wait to see the other shows like Gemberling and Teen Homicide.
Then at 11, its time for the C-Test. Problem Solving Gurus Paul Scheer and myself, aka Dr. Dan and Dr. Doug, have some great stuff cooked up. We'll be welcoming Demetri Martin, Andres Du Bouchet, Isaac Witty, and a short film from Guile.
Also, Demetri and I made the "10 Funniest People You've Never Heard Of..." list in NY Magazine. Thats right, 2 folks from the list, in one show. Bam! Here's a scan of my clip. Check out the mag, Demetri wrote a really cool piece about the craft of jokewriting, its a real interesting insight into his writing process.
See ya tonight folks.
