I don't even know how to begin my utter elation at how great last night's episode of "Lost" was. Seriously, last night's episode blew me away, I can't believe how good this show is.

Rolling Stone!

Hey, this is totally nutso. I'm in Rolling Stone's Hot Issue for "Hot Standup." Check it.

UPDATE: One correction, in the article it says, "While still in school he began performing stand-up, eventually catching the eye of the UCB's Matt Besser who offered him the Monday night spot in June." Besser was involved, but the UCB's amazing, super talented, super funny artistic director Anthony King was also instrumental in getting the show going. He's the one that initially met with me and mentioned Besser had suggested my name as someone to host the Monday show. Anthony's the one to whom I pitched the whole idea and who gave the show the green light. I said this in the interview, but these details are sometimes lost in the interviewers notes.

Coincidentally, I wanted to plug Anthony's really funny show "Gutenburg: The Musical" which you can catch at UCB on Sept 24 and Oct 1. I saw it last year and its really funny. They're doing these 2 one-off shows as a part of the NY Musical Theatre Festival's Music Comedy Series and you shouldn't pass it up. Reserve it up.

Open Casting Call - Shutterbugs Episode 3!

Hello everyone. Rob Huebel and I are filming the next episode of Shutterbugs this weekend and need some child talent. If are you unfamiliar with the 'Bugs, its the channel 102 show about Rob and I being high powered talent agents for young children, episodes 1 and 2 are linked on the top left.

We are basically looking for a young kid to read a short letter into the camera. I guess the ideal age is between 8-11? Younger kids work too, its just important that they can read the letter. It'll be very easy and very quick. The shoot would be this Sunday, morning or early afternoon.

Let us know if you can help. Email me at aziz dot ansari at gmail dot com.

Interesting Link - http://azizansarisafuckingbadass.blogspot.com

I guess this is technically a fan site?

I can't believe I haven't linked to this yet. The blog is called "Aziz Ansari is a Fucking Badass" and each post is a different tale that confirms "Aziz Ansari is a Fucking Badass."

Someone that saw me at Bumbershoot made it, and I'm flattered to say the least. The site has some really funny shit on it. Just click on the link and read it from the bottom. In these tales, I do everything from killing an anaconda with my bare hands to leading an expedition to the center of the earth where I must face deadly vampire bats.

And finally, the author recently put out an open call, check it:

If any readers of this blog have questions as to how Aziz Ansari would react and respond to a difficult situation, please email me with the situation you are thinking of (i.e. What if Aziz was trapped in space all by himself and like the spaceship he had been on took off without him and then maybe there's an asteroid meteor shower headed straight at him). I will be happy to answer your questions on this blog by giving you a quick description of what I imagine Aziz would do. My email address is p_myshkin@hotmail.com. Or, if you prefer, you may also pose your queries in the comment section.

Seriously, this dude is the man. A comedian couldn't ask for a better fan site.

Crash Test Recap...

Last night's Crash Test was one of my favorites. I just liked how varied the lineup was. Bill Burr completed dominated and I can't wait to check out his HBO special. Dude is just such a strong writer, its amazing. God's Pottery also did great with hilarious banter and some great Christian folk. Reggie Watts just blew everyone's minds as usual. Seriously, if you haven't seen this guy, make it a point to do so. He may be back at the 'Test in November. Dude is on some totally original different tip. Remarkable stuff. And of course, Kindler was amazing as usual, hands down, one of the most fun guys to watch perform.

Borelli and I had fun with our co-hosting bit. We had an essay contest where people submitted 300 word essays on why they wanted to become a comedian. The winner was Eric Scott (of Reuben Williams). Here's his 'essay':

I first moved to NY City in 1997, from Kansas City to pursue my three
passions: singing, dancing, and computer programming. I am now happy
to report, after 8 years, audition after audition, callback after no
callback, and years of voice coaching, I am now a licensed java
programmer.

I started coming to Crash Test in June of 2005. I always thought that
I wasn't capable of producing the type of HQ humor (high quality) that
I had would see week after week at the 'Test, but I started
experimenting. I went to my office with a new mission. Bring the
funny. I tried anecdotes, dirty jokes, and even some office pranks
involving buckets of water and live animals.

Most of these attempts failed miserably, but in July of 2005, I hit
the nail on the head when I developed my signature catch phrase,
"Let's Hold The Mustard". Due to space constraints, I can't really
break down why the line is so funny, but suffice to say, if you
understood the context, you'd lose your shit when I looked at you and
said "Hey there, let's hold the mustard!"

My success with the mustard line has led to a new passion for the
comedic arts. This is why, Aziz and Patrick, I want your tutelage.

Thanks,

- Eric

We weren't able to develop Eric's act much further beyond his strange "Let's Hold the Mustard Line" but he did give us quite the PPT presentation with his merchandise - including his debut comedy album "Mustard Intolerant." Here were the reviews:

"In the grand tradition of Richard Pryor and Chris Rock, Eric Scott rips through the fabric of America with his own unique brand of mustard based comedy." - Rolling Stone

"Wow." - The NY Times, New Yorker, Times of London, Hindu Times

"The gold standard by which all future condiment based comedy will be based." - The Boston Globe

Next week should be a blast. We have the amazing Jim Gaffigan coming through and Paul Scheer and I always have a great time co-hosting.

Crash Test Tonight and Misc (MP3s and more!)

Tonight's edition of the 'Test should be great. In addition to the stellar lineup of Andy Kindler, Bill Burr, and God's Pottery, we also have special guest Reggie Watts. If you've never seen Reggie, its some next level stuff. I've seen him at Invite Them Up and the stuff he does is pretty amazing. My co-host Patrick Borelli and I also have some interesting things planned. Should be good times.

I haven't posted some MP3s in a while, so lets round out those summer bummer mixes folks.

Seu Jorge - Tive Razeo
This is the first track off Seu Jorge's Cru LP. Seu is the guy in Life Aquatic that does the Bowie covers, and he was also in City of God. The fellows down at the Lab rave about the album. I haven't had enough time to digest it, but I love this song. Nice, chilled out track to start your day.

Bloc Party - Storms and Stress
This is track off some weird bonus disc from the Silent Alarm Remixed album. Its straight fire. Bloc Party ain't no joke.

Enjoy.
