AZIZ ANSARI IS A STANDUP COMIC BASED IN NEW YORK CITY.
SKETCHFEST IN SAN FRANCISCO - THIS WEEK!
Though I've been stuck in the ATL airport forever, I'll soon be in sunny San Francisco for Skethfest! My solo shows are Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm at the Punchline. Tickets are only $10. CLICK HERE TO BUY!
This is the first in a new segment I call "Questions for Double A." Email me more questions when you're curious, bored, or just needing advice.
Question: Aziz, where did you get that kickass Aphex Twin t-shirt you wore at the Gothamist show?
Several people have asked me about that Aphex Twin shirt I wore to the Gothamist show on Tuesday (see photo taken by BV). Well first off, Aphex aka Richard D. James is a family friend of the Ansaris that occasionally summers with us in our timeshare off the coast of Myrtle Beach. Occasionally he stays with me when hits up NYC.
Anyway - funny story, one night me and RD James were cruising the LES in his tank and we were trying to get to Pianos, and 2nd street was real backed up. RDJ gets the bright idea to cut in through Waikiki Wally's and go out the other end of the secret passageway into Lucky Cheng's and cruise out on 1st Avenue. I totally thought his plan would fail and called him an idiot, but it f'n worked. I thought he'd be pissed, but Richie didn't hold it against me, in fact he gave me that shirt later that night. So there ya' go inquisitive minds.

I highly recommend checking out Eugene's videos which are straight cash money if you ask me. Off the top of the dome, I love Secret Agent Video, Punk Video, Pot Video, Swift Boats, and Motley Crue.
Also if you haven't heard Eugene's phone conversations with the Anti-Gay Phone company go check it out immediately. Its in the Show and Tell Section. Jeez, there's other awesome stuff there too like a video of a college show where Eugene brings a guy on stage that wrote mean emails to him, its f'n amazing.
Dammit Eugene, you made me realize how inadequate and underwhelming my lam-o site is. I shall work 10x harder! 1:42 PM-Permalink
Sweeps Fever!
NOTE: I discuss Monday's "24", so don't read if you haven't seen it!
Before I discuss sweeps, must point you to CV, who has found what has got to be one of the most absurd things the MTA has ever done. Check it.
With May sweeps in full effect, TV is getting awesome. First off, "24" pulled a sweet move and brought back one of my alltime favorite characters - super hot assassin chick aka the L-Word's Mia Kirshner (oh my god...). The season has been a little uneven, but it looks like the end is going to kick ass. I've been pretty pleased.
Anyway though, what I'm real pumped for is of course tonight's brand new "Lost"! Oh my, "Lost" is kicking so much ass, its absurd. Weird psychic kid aka Walt going "Don't open it!" "That thing! Just don't open it!" was awesome. This week is the start of the 3 part season closer, the teaser looked awesome. I can't wait. The hatch? The raft? Walt's psychic-ness? The 'others'? The monster? Too much cool shit going on, some reveals have to be made and I bet they'll deliver.
One of the funniest May sweeps stunts has got to be a new bit they've been doing on Conan. The premise is that on those WB shows when sweeps come around, a 'hunky newcomer' comes along to spice things up. Well Conan has enlisted none other than UCB superstar Eli Newell to be "Late Night's" hunky newcomer. Its hysterical, Eli just opens the door and says some mundane thing as that weird Simple Plan (?) song that goes "Did you ever feel like blah blah? Did you ever feel like blah blah?" plays as Conan and La Bamba stare at Eli with loving admiration. (substitute real words for blah blah) Unfortunately, it looks like last night was the end of the bit, but it had me rolling. 10:35 AM-Permalink
Big Ups to Gothamist!
The Gothamist show last night was a blast! Thanks to everyone that came down, you were a terrific audience. Scheer and Huebel were ridiculously fantastic as our hosts. They came out as Gothamist.com co-founders who also happened to be the coolest, hippest cats in town. They threw in too many gems too remember, but one bit about renaming the boroughs was awesome (Murray Hill = XANDER'S PASS, Upper West Side = MILFTOWN), as was a classic piece about ringtones. Chelsea, Nick, and Jessi did great as well. I look forward to more blog sponsored comedy events. 9:58 AM-Permalink

NIN Beat the Shit Out of Me (and I was in the Second Mezzanine)
Wow. If you didn't go to Nine Inch Nails at Hammerstein last night, I have two images for you.
That's a great shot BV got off from his spot near the front of the floor.
That's what happened to his pants during the course of the evening.
Now that's a f'n show.
My new goal is to put on such a ruckus set at Rififi one night someone gets there shit ripped up to the pt of those jeans.
My buddy Appel and I were up in the Mezz 2 area and it wasn't bad. I hate Hammerstein and the mezzanine seemed to make it much better. However, I can't lie, I wish I could have been engulfed in the madness below for a little while.
I'd give anything to have a small video of the ruckus that was going on down there when Reznor pummelled the audience with a straight shitstorm of awesomeness with "Wish." It was ridonk, just a sea of kids in black shirts getting slung around like ragdolls. Other highlights were "No, You Don't," "Head Like a Hole," and, oh man, just too many to list.
"Nine Inch Nails destroyed the hammerstein ballroom last night. Seriously, they demolished the place."
That's fucking awesome, I'm pumped for the show. I wish I could get reviews like this, read this review where I've substituted my name for Trent/NIN and Tonic for Hammerstein (lets say this would be a review for the Gothamist show...)
"Aziz Ansari destroyed Tonic last night. Seriously, he demolished the place... The zaniness only intensified after Aziz flipped the fuck out at his roadies when a plug was accidently pulled between 'MIA' and 'gay marriage'. Aziz went insane and started throwing equipment and water bottles at the roadies who apparently pulled the plug, before screaming that he would fire who ever fucked up after tonights show. Anyway, here's the setlist: tallarico/kanye west/mia/gay marriage/religious groups/details/umbrella/tallarico pt 2/scenarios..."
Its getting out of hand, I've been feeling like shit for a week plus now. Out of control. Anyway, thanks to everyone who came to the NBC upfronts showcase, it was a blast. The crowd was really amped (especially for a 5:30 pm show), and everyone did very well. Anyway, come to the Gothamist show on Tuesday, check out this snazzy image if you ain't convinced!
