AZIZ ANSARI IS A STANDUP COMIC BASED IN NEW YORK CITY.
SKETCHFEST IN SAN FRANCISCO - THIS WEEK!
Though I've been stuck in the ATL airport forever, I'll soon be in sunny San Francisco for Skethfest! My solo shows are Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm at the Punchline. Tickets are only $10. CLICK HERE TO BUY!
Wow. I can't believe I got into this show. I'm notorious for having ridiculously good luck with getting into sold out, uber hyped shows, but I thought this would be my downfall. Somehow I lucked out again...
Anyway, the show was great. The Hiro Ballroom is a great venue with a very nice soundsystem. Beck's set was wildly different from his set I saw last time at Beacon with the Flaming Lips, not even a taste of Sea Change or Mutations, Beck was here to have a good time and throwdown.
He kicked it off with "Black Tambourine," then segued into "Devil's Haircut." It was heavy on Guero obviously, with tastes of Odelay and Midnite Vultures thrown in. Here's what I could remember him playing - (order definitely wrong, songs definitely missing, i'll correct it after BV and others chime in... just want to give ppl a an idea of what the set was like)
Black Tambourine/Devil's Haircut/Scarecrow/We Dance Alone/Guero/Girl/Knock You Out/Remain in Dark/Nicotine and Gravy/Broken Drum/Hell Yes/Where It's At/E-Pro -- ENCORE -- /Get Real Paid/
(UPDATE: Now correct.)
Highlights included "Girl," "We Dance Alone," "Hell Yes," "E-Pro" (way better live), and a f'n amazing version of "Get Real Paid" as the encore. The Guero stuff sounded solid live, I wish he would have done "Earthquake Weather" or "Rental Car" or "Missing."
Also, I must give a shoutout to Beck's homeboy in red. This guy was a dancer/tambourine player/homey that was on the left of the stage the whole show. Seriously, this guy kicks so much ass it is ridiculous. Red Flash Gordon shirt, red headband, red wristbands, aviators, and the sweetest dance moves I've seen a while - duder was just amped and on point the whole show. I had to get a video of the guy during "E-Pro," it was awesome. Check him out in the "E-Pro" clip I posted below.
All in all, a great show. I can't wait for Beck to return back to NYC.
With 250 tickets and every blog and their mother posting about, tickets for the 'secret' Beck show are going to be tough to swing. I, Aziz Ansari, am taking preemptive action - check it.
UPDATE: This was a joke just to be clear, I'm not a big enough douche to spout out reasons why I deserve a ticket. (Although I do want one.) I was real close, I got to the page where you enter the code and choose tix, but it timed out. At least NYC concert photo master BV snagged 'em. He works hard, he deserves it. 4:27 PM-Permalink

Hey you guys should try to see the Flight of the Conchords this week. They are a comedy duo from New Zealand that are supposed to be some next level funny. Cool Nina Simone Remix
Sorry for the scattershot MP3 posting, I'll try to be a little more organized.
On Scenestars there's an MP3 of a great new track from the Verve Remixed 3 Compilation. Its a remix of a Nina Simone song done by Postal Service. Check it.
So the hand ordeal is almost over... my physical therapy sessions have started this week. I have a pretty rigorous workout regimen. Today, I had to move my hand around in this thing while sawdust and hot air were blowing around my hand for 15 minutes. It was so boring, I was actually getting jealous of the other patients workouts - in particular this one lady who actually got to throw a basketball against a trampoline thingy, looked like some fun shit.
Patton is the man!
The show with Patton last night was awesome. I was ridiculously flattered he asked me to do it. His set was awesome as usual, it was cool watching his newer bits evolve over the shows I'd seen him do this week. It really makes me realize how much harder I need to work.
Bloc Party
The Bloc Party show on Friday was great. My only complaint was they played most of my favorite jams early on, but boy did they rock out. There drummer is the f'n man. I also loved when the lead singer said, "Are you guys coming out to see us at Webster Hall in June?" and the crowd started filling up with a torrent of "FUCK WEBSTER HALL!!" Right on!
Have you guys been watching Lost? Oh man, its seriously kicking ass now, use the next few weeks of repeats to catch up, the season finale looks to be awesome.
Speaking of TV, 24 is letting me down this season. The big, 'so big you'll throw your remote out the window' surprise was not even a mild surprise. Merl, Matt-$, and I were mad disappointed. And yeah, I heard there was a character named 'Aziz' that was in Habib Marwan's posse.
Miscellaneous Music
I've been listening a lot to the Tom Vek album. Its pretty solid. I suggest you check out the MP3 I posted, its a great song.
Also, some record label A&R person emailed me an MP3 of this band Figurine, I guess they are really stretching to find MP3 blogs, but I actually like the song. Its a project of one of the dudes from Postal Service, and sounds as you'd expect. AIB welcomes any future MP3s from record label ppl, since it helps me as far as not worrying about getting in trouble.
