M.I.A. Story (featuring Eugene Mirman)

I'm gonna slowly start uploading videos on here. Here's the first one. On Wednesday, at "Invite Them Up," I did my bit about M.I.A. where I discussed scenarios that I wished would have happened instead, in regards to our brief post show encounter. Eugene Mirman was kind enough to play the role of M.I.A. Obviously, this is experimental type stuff, I'll put up one of my regular sets sometime soon.
Anyway, check it out. It was pretty fun.
Download it here. (Right click, save target as... - Warning - 19.1 MB Quicktime file)
UPDATE: If you were linked to this post, please check out the main page to see when you can catch some live Aziz Ansari standup.

TiVO/DVR Alert!!! - Ricky Gervais on Letterman!

My biggest hero in the world right now, creator of the greatest thing ever, The Office, is going to be on Letterman on Friday. I'm not really sure what he's promoting, hopefully its not just a repeat.
Anyway, set them TiVos/DVRs, I'm doing it right now so I don't forget.

Thanks!
Thanks to all that came down to "Invite Them Up" last night. Definitely one of my most memorable birthdays. Bobby was kind enough to get the crowd to sing a happy b-day to me and then Eugene kindly took the role of M.I.A. in my M.I.A. bit. And DJing went well too. That Bloc Party album lives up to the hype, I finally listened to it straight through yesterday afternoon, and I give it a thumbs up.
I'll try to post some video from the show later.

Birthday Throwdown at "Invite Them UP!" Tonight!

Oh yeah. I'm doing a special show at "Invite Them Up!" to ring in my bday. (Whether I'll don the traditional Aziz b-day gear seen above is debatable, that tux is getting a little tight) I'm also going to be DJing afterwards, so all you Aziz music fans, gear up. And a great lineup as always:

Matt Besser
Todd Barry (I think...)
Jon Glaser (I think...)

WSJ on Aziz Ansari aka "the Balancing Act"

So in the irony of all ironies, after shunning my business school education at NYU Stern (shhh! don't tell anyone), I end up getting a mention in the Wall Street Journal Online, in an article titled "Is It Time to Get a 'Real' Job? - Twentysomethings Struggle With How to Pursue Their Creative Ambitions While Trying to Make Ends Meet."
Here's the bit of Aziz Ansari coverage found under the section marked 'Balancing Act':
Comedian Aziz Ansari hopes to one day look back with the same satisfaction that Mr. Grae now feels.
Aziz Ansari works by day for an Internet marketing company and performs in New York's comedy clubs at night.
Mr. Ansari graduated last May from New York University with a degree in business* and works by day for an Internet marketing company he and a friend co-founded. At night, the 22-year-old hits the comedy clubs in New York, performing at alternative venues throughout the city.
The Internet company earns enough for Mr. Ansari to live on, but also gives him the flexibility to pursue his craft.
"For a few weeks**, I was working to put together a pitch for a pilot for HBO***, and I didn't have time" to deal with projects for his day job, says Mr. Ansari. But because his business partner is a friend, he understood.
"It's a good balance," Mr. Ansari says.
Kate Wendleton, president of www.fiveoclockclub.com, a career counseling firm, says Mr. Ansari's strategy is smart because if he ever gives up on comedy, he will have solid work experience on his resume.
*marketing (emt concentration) to be exact
**the HBO pilot is news to me! (It was actually a pitch for a new MTV network and it took about 2 days Big Jas time in actuality)
And wsup Kate Wendleton PRESIDENT of www.fiveoclockclub.com? I'm gonna email all my old NYU career counseling people with a copy of the article and highlight the quote:
"Kate Wendleton, president of www.fiveoclockclub.com, a career counseling firm, says Mr. Ansari's strategy is smart..."

Training Almost Complete, UCB Showcase Tonight!
Well after a grueling marathon of standup, weight training, and miscellaneous physical workouts, I'm ready to perform at UCB tonight.
I know the snow outside may seem to be a deterrent to some of the outdoor training I had planned, but it is actually exactly what I hand in mind. Check it:

Anyway, hope to see you tonight folks, all of us are primed and ready to put on a great show.
