SICK Indeed, Videos Coming Soon

Saw this on Amazon when doing some Big Jas work. F'n sick huh? I just love how 'sick' is in italics, I couldn't stop laughing.

Did some more refining of my M.I.A. bit and my other bits for the UCB Valentine's Day show on Monday, its gonna be awesome! The bit is way better than the M.I.A. scenarios posted on AIB. I'll try to have video up here for those of you who can't make it. I'm also gonna post video of me telling my story regarding "Tallarico.com."

Prepping for V-Day Comedy Throwdowns

Great show at "Invite Them Up" last night, I tried some new material out for the Valentine's Day shows I'm doing at UCB on Monday, and its was real fun. As Showalter said, the space is really a place for comedians to push the boundaries as far as their experimentation. The crowds really appreciate wildly original shit, and its real fun to write for them. Where else do you get a laugh out of a joke that references "Before Sunset"?!?

I've really had a lot of fun writing stuff for this Valentine's Day show, it was a nice challenge to be forced to write stuff about 'love,' which I really don't have any material about (if you exclude my gay marriage stuff.) Right now, my Love Rules bits are going to along the lines of the post I wrote about earlier this week professing my love to the one and only M.I.A. and The Love Sucks show will just be more straight standup and closed out with this new bit I worked on last night involving some music (particularly Interpol and the Shins.)

Jeez, I just realized how ridiculous this new stuff I'm writing is - my favorite new jokes involve M.I.A., Interpol, and the Shins. I need to be careful, pretty soon I'm only going to be considered funny within a 20 block radius of Ludlow St.

Some Live Aziz DJ Action for all you Aziz Music Fans

Hey, so since my blog readership seems to be slowly being taken over by people Googling the music I write about as opposed my comedic prowess, I figure why not give them some love too.

Wednesday, after "Invite Them Up" at Cinema Classics/Rififi (11th St. btwn. 1st and 2nd. Ave), I'm going to be hitting the decks/my iPod. Should be a good time. Show starts at 8:30 and I should hit the DJ booth around 10/10:15 pm.

What am I gonna be spinning? I dunno, maybe a little M.I.A.? a little Bravery? some new Beck? Shins? Arcade Fire? (from their EP, that Funeral LP is soooo last season right hipster douchebag?) .

I may as well call it quits on the blogging, I've finally hit the comedian/music blogger highpoint -- I'm going to be DJing at the after-party for my favorite comedy show. I'm such a very specific type of loser.

M.I.A. at Knitting Factory

Since I get almost as many hits for this website from people Googling M.I.A. as my own name, I feel obligated to report back on the awesome M.I.A. show last night at the Knitting Factory. Arular has been in heavy rotation, but due to the Beck mayhem, I was never able to post the gushing review of it I wanted to. But here me now, Arular is probably my favorite album of the year thus far, so needless to say, I was pretty excited for the show.

M.I.A. took the stage about midnight with the almighty Diplo as her DJ. The set took off with one of my favorite tracks from Arular, "Pull the People," and the energy never let up. We were treated to Diplo's remixes (Piracy Funds Terrorism versions) of "Amazon,""M.I.A.," and "URAQT" (whatever it is, that song that has the "Sanford and Son" sample - which really kicks ass by the way, what genius), but it was the Arular beats for the most part.

And believe me when I tell you, the crowd went straight apeshit during "Galang." It was f'n amazing. The other highlights included stellar versions of "Bucky Done Gun," "10 Dollar," and "Hombre." The only track that she didn't do that I was hoping for was "Bingo," but all in all, M.I.A. once again lived up to the dangerously high amount of hype. And she also had one Aziz Ansari pining over her like a 14-year-old girl at a John Mayer concert.

At the end of the show, I stuck around at the Knitting Factory for a bit. When I went outside to make a phone call, what did I see?

My sweetheart M.I.A. heading off with her entourage! I knew I had to say something before she scurried off, so I went with what I thought she would actually respond to - I spoke in Tamil (the obscure SE Asian language both M.I.A. and I happen speak -- yeah we got a lot in common, not a big deal). Here's the exchange:

Aziz: Hey, rumba nala patih!

M.I.A.: Huh?

Aziz: You speak Tamil right?

M.I.A.: Yeah...

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: (Smiles as she gets in her ride)

And like that she walked out of my life... ("Rumba Nala Patih" roughly translates to "Very, Very Good Music!")

Well my dearest M.I.A., hopefully we shall run into each other again at some point. For now, I have the precious memories of your beautiful smile, your amazing performance, and the brief moments we shared together. I bid you farewell and good luck my Sri Lankan princess.

In the time being, I can still dream though, so in the tradition of one my favorite standup bits, here are a few alternate scenarios I wished would have happened instead...

Scenario #1

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: Oh my god, that is the sweetest and most cleverest thing I have ever heard. I love you Aziz Ansari.

Scenario #2

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: (Tamil) Yepaaada, evulo nala pasithan. One-a rhumba poodeekithi Aziz Ansari.*

*(Roughly translates to "Oh my god, that is the sweetest and most cleverest thing I have ever heard. I love you Aziz Ansari.")

Scenario #3

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: Wait, what's your name?

Aziz: Aziz Ansari.

M.I.A.: Aziz Ansari, like the comedian Aziz Ansari!?!!?!? All the indie comedy people say you're the greatest! I saw you perform last week, you really live up to the hype!

Aziz: No you live up to hype!

M.I.A.: No you live up to hype!

Aziz: No you live up to hype!

M.I.A.: No you live up to hype!

Aziz: No you live up to hype! Ok this is getting silly..

M.I.A.: I love you Aziz Ansari. Come over here, you budding comedy superstar!

Aziz: Anything you say, my Sri Lankan princess.

Scenario #4

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: Oh wow! That's great, you speak Tamil! Oh my god, I've been searching everywhere for a guy that speaks Tamil!

Aziz: Well M.I.A., I'm your man.

M.I.A.: Look, I need to ask you a huge favor.. come here.

Aziz: (Moves closer to M.I.A.)

M.I.A.: My younger sister is getting married next week, and I have to go stay in London at my parents house. The best man is none other than my ex-fiance, who, two years before, inexplicably dumped me. I don't want my ex-fiance and my family to know that I'm still alone. I'm desperate Aziz. I need you to pose as my new boyfriend and escort me to the wedding.

Aziz: M.I.A., this sounds very familiar to the plot of "Wedding Date" - the new romantic comedy from Universal Pictures starring Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney - now in theatres.

M.I.A.: Ummm... yeah I guess so..

Scenario #5

Aziz: So I was saying, rumba nala patih..

M.I.A.: That's very sweet, what's your name?

Aziz: Aziz.

M.I.A.: Hey did I hear you saying something earlier to a friend about having trouble with your Mac?

Aziz: Yeah, I recently had a freak accident that resulted in my whole hard drive being erased.

M.I.A.: (starts rubbing Aziz's shoulders) Awwww.. that must have put you under a lot of stress.

Aziz: Definitely, its been awful.

M.I.A.: You know I am actually an expert on data recovery with Mac hard drives, I'm free the rest of my time here, so I can probably get all your data back!

Aziz: Oh wow! Thanks M.I.A. that'd be great!

M.I.A.: Well, I gotta go.. but, I know this may sound weird but.... no, there's no way..

Aziz: What M.I.A.? What is it? You can tell me anything...

M.I.A.: I've been watching the hit Fox series "24" on DVD. I'm on Season 2, Disc 3, hour 3. Would you be interested in watching it with me?

Aziz: WOW! That's the exact same hour I'm on! Of course I would.

M.I.A.: Don't you love the Tony Almeda character!

Aziz: He's my favorite!

M.I.A.: Well then what are you waiting for! Come here you silly little comedian!!

Aziz: Whatever you say my little Sri-Lankan born, UK based rap sensation.

UPDATE 2: I'm gonna be posting more scenarios throughout the day, so check back.

UPDATE: As you know RIAA pressure has forced me to lay low with my own MP3 posting, but I am still going to try to hook it up with good links.

This site has plenty of links for MP3s and the video for "Galang." Enjoy.
